Montreat, How I Love You

Oh, it's so good to be back.

As I type this blog post, I am sitting in a rocking chair on the porch in the mountains of North Carolina. And I am loving every minute of it. For me, Montreat, North Carolina is heaven on earth. I have been coming here every summer for my entire life (my mom even came here when she was pregnant with me, so when i say "my entire life" I am not exaggerating, people).

It's hard to describe specifically what it is that makes Montreat so wonderful. It's a combination of things, really. It's the crisp, clean mountain air that just feels so fresh. It's hiking to the top of Lookout Mountain with friends and family. It's making a bowl or a mug or a shepherd for the Nativity scene in pottery and feeling proud of having accomplished something. It's long talks on the porch in rocking chairs. It's celebrating Christmas in June. It's the barn dance on Friday nights. It's tradition. I could go on and on (I guess that I already have), but I just want to paint a picture of how much I love Montreat. I think of the quote by John Muir: "The mountains are calling and I must go," and I can totally relate. I often feel like the mountains are my home. I have so many wonderful memories from spending two weeks each summer in Montreat, and I can't imagine not coming here every summer.

I feel like there are two types of people: beach people and mountain people. It's probably not fair of me to categorize people like that, but it's just something I do. We (my family) have always been mountain people. That's just the way it is. Now don't get me wrong, I love the beach. I love taking long walks in the sand, swimming in the ocean, and just soaking up the sun. But there's just something about the mountains that truly feels like home to me. As I said earlier, I can't pinpoint one specific reason as to why I feel this way; it's just one of those feelings that you can't describe.

Thanks for listening to my ramblings, few readers that I have. I'll leave you with a couple pictures from one of my favorite places on earth...

Springtime Shenanigans

Yesterday was yearbook day (aka one of my most favorite school days ever). I absolutely love the yearbook. Let me explain with an analogy: yearbook day is to me as pretzel day is to Stanley in The Office. If you are like "girl, you crazy! I have no idea what you're talking about!" then let me tell you that man lives for pretzel day. Maybe this will help explain.

So while it would be extreme to say that I LIVE for yearbook day, it is an accurate statement to say that I love it. A lot.

I really can't even believe that today was my last yearbook assembly EVER (unless of course there are yearbook assemblies in college, but that is doubtful). The theme of the yearbook this year is "Answer the Call." here's a picture of me taking extra precautions to ensure the safety of my yearbook (obsessed much?):

At the assembly there was a slideshow of some of pictures in the yearbook. The last song in the slideshow was "The Call" by Regina Spektor (aka one of my most favorite songs ever by one of my most favorite singers ever). I admit, I got a little sentimental. I just can't believe high school is almost over..it's so surreal right now. I am definitely excited for college, but I still don't think it's totally hit me yet that I'm actually leaving.

But enough sentimentality. Here's a fun fact for the day: the other day we got our 8th grade predictions back & 2 things about mine stood out to me.
1. My handwriting has significantly improved since 8th grade
2. I predicted that I would go to college in North Carolina (and I am..how crazy is that?!)
I know it might not seem that cool, but it's so strange to me because I honestly have no recollection of thinking that I would end up going to Wake Forest (or any North Carolina school for that matter). I'm not sure if I had even heard of Wake Forest when I was a wee 8th grader. So all that to say, my true calling is to be a psychic. Why am I even going to college? Beats me.
Speaking of college, today was college t-shirt day at school. And I LOVE college t-shirt day. It's just so fun to see where everyone is going! Now I bet you're thinking "Wow, Sarah..you sure are enthusiastic about life!" and that would be an accurate statement..not gonna lie, yearbook day AND college t-shirt day in the same week are pretty ballin. Plus, awards day is Friday! And even though it's the longest assembly evaaa, it's totally worth it because we get to miss 2nd period (and most of 3rd) and some of my favorite people ever get awards! What could be better than that?! (technically, a lot of things could, but you get the picture).

In other news, there are only 20 days until graduation. I think today it finally hit me that I'm actually graduating. Side note: earlier in this post, I said that it hadn't hit me yet, but I kind of cheated (if cheating on a blog post is even a thing) & wrote that part yesterday. Just wanted to clear up any possible confusion. Anyways, it's still weird to me. Let the emotional rollercoaster begin.
Oh and I almost forgot..today was the first day that all my we the people friends were back at school from nationals in Washington DC! They got 8th place (that's IN THE NATION, people). I am so proud of them & have been living vicariously through them as they have uploaded countless pictures to instagram. What can I say, I'm a wtp wannabe.
Well, I will close today's post with one last picture..this little treat was waiting for me when I got home today. I sure will miss these little surprises next year. Let's just say that the chocolate did not remain in it's wrapper for long..if ya know what I mean;)

well..that's all for now folks. happy spring..enjoy it while it lasts!

Little Pieces of Happy

it's tuesday. yuck. tuesday is typically my least favorite day of the week, but today hasn't been all that bad. Since it's tuesday, though, i decided that i would list some things that make me happy (to make the tuesday-ness of today disappear a little).

1. i will be here very soon. i will be a freshman at wake forest this coming fall, and i am SO excited!!! i'm just dying to know who my roommate is.

2. new girl comes on tonight! plus, i haven't watched last week's episode so that means double new girl for this girl!! let's just say i'm a little jess obsessed.
3. my mom just decorated for Easter, and let me tell you i adore our Easter decorations. not trying to brag or anything, but they're pretty darn cute. here are some examples:
4. reading this blog. i started reading the rockstar diaries a few months ago and i LOVE it. i feel like i know these people (& wish that i did)..they're the cutest little family ever.

5. eating (too many of) these dark chocolate covered blueberries. they're so scrumptious.

well, that's all i've got for today, folks. have a wonderful rest of the week..and happy Easter!!
peace & blessins.

Happy Friday!

Fridays are the greatest. Especially when it's been such a long week (I think it's like a requirement or something for the week after spring break to be exceptionally long). This Friday was great because i got to spend some much needed quality time with some of my girls (shoutout to Kelly, Emily, and Chan: love y'all to the moon!!). And although I was really hoping that I would get to sleep in tomorrow, instead I will be getting up at the crack of dawn to work at the Rumpshaker 5k race. Yes, that's it's real name. And I get why it's called that because it's for colon cancer research...I'm just not quite sure how I feel about wearing a t-shirt that says "Rumpshaker" on it with a picture of a butt. But it's for a good cause, right? In other news, I'm planning on FINALLY seeing The Hunger Games tomorrow. I think that I might be the only person on the face of the earth who hasn't yet seen this movie. How hipster of me. But i have been DYING to see it and hope that it lives up to my (high) expectations. And here are two reasons why I'm super pumped:

Love them. I have to admit, I am Team Peeta, but Liam Hemsworth...well, enough said.

Some other happenings in my life right now:
52 days til graduation
88 more days til SOUTH AFRICA
EEEEEEEEPPP I CAN BARELY CONTAIN MYSELF.
So many fun things are coming up in the near future, and while I'm so excited about this summer and heading off to college, I really don't want to wish away my last 7 weeks of high school (oh my word. can't believe I just said that. 7 weeks. Craziness. I am absolutely ecstatic about being a Demon Deacon, but I definitely want to enjoy every moment. Cliche, I know. But true.

Well, that is all for tonight. Peace out, girl scouts (and boy scouts too..I don't discriminate).

Here Goes Nothing...

It’s official: I have entered the blogging world. Or is it the blog world? Yikes! looks like i’m already struggling. Needless to say, constructive criticism is much appreciated.

Anywho.. I once heard that people tend to be most creative late at night, so in an attempt to get my creative juices flowing last night, I made a blog. We’ll see how this works out. In other news, I am currently suffering from senioritis (if anyone knows the cure, call me maybe definitely). Oh and I’m also currently listening to “Call Me Maybe” on repeat. I’m just a wee bit obsessed with that song at the moment. A few other obsessions I currently have:
 1. hiking
 2. the Fun. pandora station
 3. sea foam green nail polish
 4. chocolate covered blueberries
 5. just dance 3

Random list, I know. This is what happens when I’m struggling to create a first blog post. Now for an explanation of the blog title. Here’s a hint: it’s really nerdy. STILL haven't guessed it after that helpful hint? Ok, I'll tell you...It’s from a quote by the one and only Thomas Jefferson:

But friendship is precious, not only in the shade, but in the sunshine of life, and thanks to a benevolent arrangement the greater part of life is sunshine.”

I just love this quote because it’s about two of my favorite things: friends and sunshine! Oh, and I’m also a little bit of a history nerd (therefore, Thomas Jefferson=historical figure=awesomeness). Well, enough about the blog title. You get the picture. I’m thinking that’s enough for my first blog post. More to come..maybe?

Peace & blessins,
Sarah (a baby blogger)
